THE SHORT VERSION
─────────────────────────────
Google is replacing the underlying technology that connects MyFitnessPal to Google Health (formerly Fitbit). As a result, your Google Health sync with MyFitnessPal will need to be reconnected starting October 12, 2026. We've sent a notification and email to affected members. Tap the "Reconnect Now" button, or follow the steps below to reconnect manually. Please note: If you already reconnected MyFitnessPal and Google Health after receiving communication from Google, you will still need to complete this reconnection again when prompted by MyFitnessPal.
WHAT GOOGLE IS CHANGING
─────────────────────────────
Google has announced that the underlying technology connecting apps like MyFitnessPal to Google Health (formerly Fitbit) will be shut down in October 2026 and replaced with a new system called the Google Health API.
Because this migration requires all existing integrations to move to Google's new authorization system. Starting October 12, 2026, members who have Google Health (formerly Fitbit) connected to MyFitnessPal will need to reconnect the integration in order for data to continue syncing between the two programs.
Please note: You may have received communication regarding this reauthorization from Google in late September/early October. If you reauthorized the connection then, please be aware that you will need to complete the reconnection again once you receive the prompt from MyFitnessPal. This second reconnection is what will ensure your data continues to sync after Google shuts down the Fitbit API at the end of October.
If Fitbit becoming Google Health is new to you, please see our May 2026 post: Fitbit Is Becoming the Google Health App: What MFP members connected to Fitbit need to know.
HOW TO REAUTHORIZE GOOGLE HEALTH
─────────────────────────────
Our team is notifying affected MyFitnessPal members of the need to reauthorize via email and/or via notification. Tapping on the notification, or launching the app once the notification has been sent, will show you a pop up on your home screen titled “Please Reconnect to Google Health”, with a blue “Reconnect Now” button. Tapping that button will bring you through the authorization flow, where you can re-enter your credentials, and reconnect to Google Health.
If you didn’t see the notification, or accidentally dismissed the pop up, no worries! You can reconnect manually by following the steps below. You will want to connect, re-authorize, and verify your Step Source, in that order.
In the Android or iOS app:
- From the Today tab, tap the Profile icon in the top right corner to open the More Menu. If you don’t see the Profile icon, tap the “More” menu at the bottom right of your screen.
- Tap “Apps and Devices”, then tap “Connected” to see your connected apps.
- Tap Google Health, and tap “Connect.”
- Follow the prompts to reconnect Google Health to MyFitnessPal. When you reach the stage to enter your Google Account credentials, please ensure to select the Gmail account that you have associated with your Google Health account.
- If you use a Google Health activity tracker to track your steps, confirm that Google Health is still set as your Primary Step Source. To do this, select "Steps" from the More Menu and look for a blue checkmark next to Google Health. If you don't see one, tap it to select Google Health as your Primary Step Source.
On the website:
- From the Apps tab, locate the Your Apps section in the right sidebar.
- Click on Google Health and select "Connect."
- Follow the prompts to reconnect Google Health to MyFitnessPal. When you reach the stage to enter your Google Account credentials, please ensure to select the Gmail account that you have associated with your Google Health account.
- Ensure Google Health is set as your Step Source in the Steps tab.

Trouble logging into Google Health?
Please contact Google Support directly. Please note: Google ended support for standalone Fitbit logins in May 2026 when the Fitbit app became the Google Health app. If your previous Fitbit credentials are no longer working, this may be why. You can read more details about this in our post from May 2026, though you will have to contact Google via the link above for support.
Seeing partial or no data syncing from Google Health to MyFitnessPal?
First, check that your data is appearing in the Google Health app. If it's not showing there, please contact Google for support.
If your data is showing in Google Health but not in MyFitnessPal, check What syncs to and from Google Health (Fitbit) to confirm the data type you're expecting is supported.
If that doesn’t resolve it, our Google Health (Fitbit) Troubleshooting support article might help.
If you're still having trouble, reach out to our Customer Happiness team via our Help Page, and we'll do our best to help.
Known Issues
─────────────────────────────
Issue: My Exercise and Step Data is Not Syncing from Google Health
Status: Investigating
Some members are reporting exercise and Step data is not syncing from Google Health after disconnecting and reconnecting. This bug is impacting data coming FROM Google Health to MFP. Food diary data logged within MFP does successfully sync TO Google Health.
Our team has made some updates over the course of last week that has improved sync of data from Google Health to MFP for many members. We are working alongside Google to address other ongoing sync delays that are impacting members, and are not yet considering this issue resolved. We do apologize for the ongoing trouble.
Issue: I Can't Connect GH and MFP. I'm Stuck on an Endless Spinner at the End of the Connect Flow
Status: Fixed
Some members were running into an endless spinning wheel when reaching the end of the reconnection flow due to the number of people trying to reconnect. Some changes have been implemented to address this, and members can now complete the connection flow.
