This article explains which data syncs between MyFitnessPal and Google Health (Fitbit), and in which direction. The article also explains when and how each type of data syncs, so you’ll know what to expect after linking your accounts.
What syncs to and from Google Health
Calories consumed
When you log food in MyFitnessPal, it will automatically sync to Google Health, where it will appear as a meal summary. Meal summaries will sync starting on the day the two accounts are linked. As of May 26th, 2026, MyFitnessPal now supports the syncing of individual food names within meal summaries to the Google Health app for MyFitnessPal Premium and Premium+ members.
Historical meal data is not synced to Google Health.
Cardio exercise
When you log a cardio exercise on MyFitnessPal, this information is synced to Google Health. It's important to enter the start time of the cardio exercise, so that the data collected by Google Health during the workout can be correctly reconciled with the exercise calories the user is logging.
Water consumption
Water consumption logged in MyFitnessPal will sync to Google Health. This sync only works in one direction, so you must log water consumption directly in MyFitnessPal for this to work.
Fitbit steps and sleep minutes
These items are synced to your MyFitnessPal account and can be viewed on our website here by clicking the Check-In tab near the top of the screen, or by reviewing the Progress area in the iOS or Android apps.
Weight
Weight entries logged into Google Health or into MyFitnessPal will sync to the other account.
