How do I send a private message?

This article explains how MyFitnessPal members can send private messages to friends using the mobile app or website. You can only message someone if you have both accepted each other's friend requests.​

You’ll find step-by-step instructions for sending messages from three places in the app and on the website: the Community Forums, your Friends List, and your Private Messages Inbox.

 
You can send and receive private messages with other MyFitnessPal members on our website or in our apps. To keep things positive, private messaging is only available after both people accept each other's friend request. So, you can't send a private message to someone unless you are already friends.
 

Apps:

From the Community Forums:

  1. Start by opening the MyFitnessPal app
  2. Tap the More menu on the right side of your screen
  3. Scroll down and select Community
  4. Find the user you want to message and tap their name
  5. Then select View Profile
  6. Tap MyFitnessPal Profile
  7. When their profile opens, you’ll see three icons: a person with an x, a diary, and an envelope. Tap the envelope icon
  8. Enter a subject, type your message, and tap Send Message

 

From your Friends List 👥:

  1. Start by opening the MyFitnessPal app
  2. Tap the More menu on the right side of your screen
  3. Scroll down and select Friends
  4. Find the user you want to message and tap their name
  5. When their profile opens, you’ll see three icons: a person with an x, a diary, and an envelope. Tap the envelope icon

  6. Enter a subject, type your message, and tap Send Message

     

From your Private Message Inbox ✉: 

  1. Start by opening the MyFitnessPal app
  2. Tap the More menu on the right side of your screen
  3. Scroll down and select Messages
  4. Tap Send a Message
  5. In the To field, enter the username of the person you want to message
  6. Enter a subject, type your message, and tap Send Message

 

Website:

From the Community Forums:

  1. Go to our website: www.myfitnesspal.com
  2. Click the Community tab at the top of the website
  3. Find the user you'd like to send a message to
  4. Click on their username or profile photo
  5. Then select View Profile
  6. Click MyFitnessPal Profile
  7. Click Send Message
  8. Enter a subject, write your message, and click Send Message

 

From your Friends List 👥:

  1. Go to our website: www.myfitnesspal.com
  2. Click on the My Home tab
  3. Next, choose Friends from the list of subtabs
  4. Find the friend you want to message
  5. Click Send Message
  6. Enter a subject, write your message, and click Send Message

 

From your Private Message Inbox ✉: 

  1. Go to our website: www.myfitnesspal.com
  2. Click on the My Home tab
  3. Go to Mail by clicking the envelope icon in the upper right corner of your screen.
  4. Next, select Compose Message
  5. In the To field, enter the username of the person you want to message
  6. Enter a subject, write your message, and click Send Message
