This article explains how to add a food or exercise note to your diary on iOS, Android, and the website.
Some days need more context than a food or exercise log alone can give. A quick note lets you capture that, right alongside your entries.
Adding food and exercise notes with the app
iOS and Android
- Open the MyFitnessPal app and scroll to the bottom of your Today page.
- Tap on where it says Add a note.
- Select Food Notes or Exercise Notes near the top of the screen.

Type in your note, and tap Save in the upper right corner.

Food notes
- Log in to the website using the same email address and password you use with the app.
- Click the Food tab near the top of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see Today’s Food Notes.
- Click Edit Note, and type your note into the box.
- When you’re done, click Save Note.
Exercise notes
- Log in to the website using the same email address and password you use with the app.
- Click the Exercise tab near the top of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see Today's Exercise Notes.
- Click Edit Note, and type your note into the box.

Notes are part of your personal diary and aren't shared with friends by default.
Is there a character limit for diary notes?
This isn't confirmed in current documentation, so keep notes reasonably brief just in case.
