This article explains two workarounds for tracking vitamins, medications, or supplements in MyFitnessPal.
Your daily routine is more than just meals, and we know it. Native vitamin and medication tracking is something we continue to explore, and in the meantime, here are two workarounds that many users rely on.
Use the Notes area of your diary
You can use the Notes section to keep track of vitamins, medications, or supplements.
iOS and Android
- Open the MyFitnessPal app and go to your Today page.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen until you see Notes.
- Tap the Pencil icon to add a note.
- When you’re done adding your note, tap Save in the upper right corner.
Website
- Log in to the website using the same email address and password you use with the app.
- Click the Food tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see Today’s Food Notes
- Click Edit Note, and type your note into the box.
- When you’re done, click Save Note.
Other workarounds
- You can set up a dedicated meal slot called "Vitamins and Supplements"
- Or, create a custom food entry to represent each vitamin, medication, or supplement. Log it under that meal whenever you take it.
Frequently asked questions
Will a logged supplement affect my daily calorie or nutrient totals?
It can, depending on what you enter when creating the custom food. If you want it tracked without affecting your totals, enter zero for calories and other nutrients when you set it up.
Is MyFitnessPal planning to add native vitamin or medication tracking?
It's something we continue to explore, though we don't have a specific timeline to share.
Can I track dosage amounts this way?
Yes. When you create the custom food entry, you can use the serving size field to represent a dose, like one tablet or one capsule.
