How to invite members to a private group

This guide explains how to invite new members to a private MyFitnessPal group using either the website or the mobile app.​

Important Notes: Private groups are hidden from group search, so only the group owner or leader can send invitations directly. If someone wants to join, they should message the group creator or leader to request an invitation.

 

If you've already created a group and decided to make it private, you can easily invite new members as long as you know their usernames.
 

Apps:

  1. Open the MyFitnessPal app
  2. Tap on the More menu
  3. Scroll down and select Community
  4. Look for the menu with three horizontal lines in the top left corner and tap it
  5. Next, tap on Groups
  6. Once you're in the Groups section, scroll until you find your custom group under My Groups
  7. When you're in your custom group (as a group owner or leader), click the blue Options button
  8. Then tap Invite Members, and from there, you can type in their usernames

Note: If a username does not appear automatically, that person has not used the community before. Let them know they need to select the Community tab in the app or on the website first.

 

Website:

  1. Visit our website at www.myfitnesspal.com
  2. Log in to your account. If you use the mobile app, log in with the same email and password you use there
  3. Click the Community tab
  4. Next, select Groups
  5. In the Groups section, scroll down to find your custom private group listed under My Groups
  6. If you are the group owner or leader, open your private group and click the blue Options button
  7. Then, select Invite Members
  8. Enter the usernames of the people you want to invite in the field, then click Invite
  9. Wait for the people you invited to accept
Note: If a username does not appear automatically, that person has not used the community before. Let them know they need to select the Community tab in the app or on the website first.

 

Private Group Search:

If you create a private group, it will not appear in the group search. To invite others, you need to send them an invitation directly.
 
To join a private group, you need to know the group creator or a group leader. You can send them a private message to ask for an invitation.
