Trying to invite a friend to your Group, but their name won't come up? You're not doing anything wrong; it's a small quirk in how invites work, and it's an easy fix.
MyFitnessPal can only show people who've visited the Community section at least once. If your friend hasn't been there yet, their username won't appear when you search for them, even if you're already connected on MyFitnessPal.
The fix is simple: ask your friend to open Community on their end. Once they do, you'll be able to find and invite them.
For Private groups, we recommend sending these steps to your friend in a private message along with a link to your group, since Private groups don't show up in public search.

- Tap the More icon.
- Scroll down and tap Community.

Where group invites show up
Group invitations don't appear in your main MyFitnessPal notifications. Your friend can find them in the community notifications, under the bell icon on the community pages.

Do I need to be MyFitnessPal friends with someone to invite them to a Group?
No. You can invite any active MyFitnessPal user by username, whether or not you're already connected as friends, as long as they've visited Community at least once.
What if my friend still doesn't appear after visiting Community?
Give it a moment, then search for their username again. If they still don't appear, share your group's link with them directly in a private message.
Does this limitation apply to both Public and Private groups?
Yes. The Community visit requirement is the same for both. For Private groups, we recommend sharing these steps privately, since Private groups don't appear in public search.
Can I invite someone who isn't a MyFitnessPal member yet?
No. Only active MyFitnessPal members can be invited to a Group. If your friend doesn't have the app yet, have them join MyFitnessPal first, then visit Community before you invite them.
