General Questions
What is this new layout?
Since the Diary is where users spend most of their time in the app, we bumped it up to the first thing you see when you launch the app, “Today”. You'll recognize many of the same features you've come to expect, now with some upgrades we hope you'll enjoy:
- A Streaks view to track your logging consistency
- A cleaner layout for calories, macros, and meals
- A Healthy Habits section for water, exercise, and steps
Food logging works much in the same way as it has in the past. You can still log meals, track macros, and monitor your progress just like before. We’ve made it easier to see how your day is shaping up while making food logging more central to the app. And more improvements are being cooked up right now!
Why did MyFitnessPal make this change?
A lot has changed over the years in terms of technology, health and wellness habits, and how we use apps. We've heard from users that you want:
- Better guidance on what to do next during their day
- A more engaging and motivating logging experience
- Easier ways to understand their daily nutrition data
- Help staying consistent with their health habits
Is this change permanent?
Yes, this is the new home screen experience. However, we're continuously improving it based on your feedback.
Navigation & Finding Your Features
Upgraded Navigation
Your Diary is now your home screen! Look for the "Today" button in your bottom navigation. This is your new main hub for daily logging.
Plan your next meal with your custom meals or recipes or access hundreds of free RD approved options in our Recipe Discovery or take your planning to the next level with our brand new Meal Planner included in Premium+.
The blue plus (+) offers one-tap access to the most common and powerful logging tools we’ve ever had with access to our 22 million public food database.
How do I log my meals now?
Tap on “Log” next to any meal section (Breakfast, Lunch, etc.) to be brought directly to your recent or frequently logged items or to search the food database. Or tap the blue plus (+) at the bottom of the page to access the various other ways you can log food, water, weight, and exercise.*Some food logging features require a Premium subscription.
The process itself hasn’t changed beyond that, just the visual layout.
Logging the same thing as yesterday? Swipe just below the meal name to bring forward the foods last logged under that meal without needing to search or select individual items.
Where can I see my daily calories and macros?
They're prominently displayed on your new Today tab with a cleaner, easier-to-read design. You'll see your Calories consumed and remaining, and a macro breakdown right at the top.
Premium and Premium+ subscribers can tap on the macronutrients to toggle between the consumed (grams), remaining (grams), and percentage of calories provided by each nutrient. Users with a free account will see just the percentage of calories provided by the macronutrients.
Premium and Premium+ subscribers can customize their macro card to show one of two extra views. Go to More, then Settings, then Diary Settings. Select Customize Nutrient Dashboard, and choose either Macros + Heart Healthy to add a fourth view for saturated fat, sodium, and fiber, or Macros + Carb Conscious to add a fourth view for carbs, sugar, and fiber.
Tapping on one of your Meals with food logged will give you more details about everything you've logged for that category. We've also introduced more robust meal-level calorie and macro information at the top of the page for all users regardless if you have a Premium subscription or not so you have a clearer idea of what you've logged.
Can I see my whole day at once?
Just above the meals, you can tap on View All to get a bird’s eye view of everything you’ve logged today. You’ll see all your Meals in a single list separated by Meal or, from the selector at the top of the page, toggle between individual Meals.
How do I access my water and exercise tracking?
Scroll down to the Healthy Habits section at the bottom of your Today screen. You'll find water logging, logged exercise, and step tracking there.
To locate your exercise, scroll down past your Diary to the Healthy Habits section.
If you have calories earned through your logged or synced exercises, you will notice a
emoji in your calories remaining bar, as well as down in the exercise section.
Premium users do have the option to turn off the calorie adjustment setting. Please see this FAQ for more information.
How do I log my weight or other measurements?
Your most recently logged weight can be seen at the very bottom of the Today tab. Tap the card to jump to your weight progress, where you can log a new weight and see your past entries. Tap on “Weight” in the upper left to view different measurements.
Can I still change dates to view future or previous days?
Yes! Use the date picker by tapping on the day of the current week you want to visit or Today at the top of your screen to navigate to any day you want to view or edit. Swipe left or right to go back or forward whole weeks at a time.
Updates to existing features
How do I copy logged foods between days or meals?
Next to your meal names, you can tap on the ••• to copy a meal you’ve already logged to the selected Meal. Or, if you’ve logged food into that meal already, copy those foods to another meal.
If you’re finding that you’re logging the same items every day, we recommend creating a Saved Meal for easy and quick logging of sets of items. The foods and drinks you’ve logged in the past should also show in your History as you start to log in a meal. Keep an eye out for updates and new features to make this even faster.
Copying works at the meal level, so you can reuse your favorite meals across different days with ease. Copying individual items or entire days isn't supported, but editing a copied meal afterward is always an option.
How do I quick add?
On the today screen, tap the log button next to the meal you want to Quick Add calories to (if you’re Premium or Premium+, you can also Quick Add macros). Then, on the next screen, look below the search bar and tap the Quick Add button next to the Meal Scan button.
How do I delete a food?
For iOS, you can easily remove an item by swiping from right to left on the entry, then tapping Delete.
On Android, just press and hold the food item you’d like to remove. When the menu appears, select Delete entry.
I can't find Custom Nutrients! Where did they go?
Tap on Progress along the bottom of the app. Here you can keep tabs on the nutrients we track and calories by the day or week.
The Overview tab helps you keep an eye on the details that our Nutrition team feels are key to your selected goals. And along the top of the page you can explore the Calories, Macros, and Nutrients you’ve logged today or by the week along with your measurements and even sleep.
Premium and Premium+ subscribers will also see a brand new AI-powered Insight combining your Diary's history and MyFitnessPal features with simple but impactful steps to help reach your goals!
See Introducing Progress Overview: Your Progress, Personalized for more information.
Where to find the pie chart?
How do I complete my Diary for the day?
The Complete Diary option moved up the page just a bit from before. After logging at least one food (hopefully more than one) in a meal, you'll see the option just below the meals and above the Healthy habits
Food Logging Streaks
What are streaks, and how do they work?
The food logging streak at the top of the Today screen helps you track how many consecutive days you've logged at least one food item. Streaks are designed to help you build consistent habits and visualize your progress over time.
But I'm seeing a higher number on my profile?
Currently, there are two streaks:
- The Food Logging streak on the Today screen
- A Login streak on your profile
The Login streak is based on simply opening or syncing the app. While we greatly appreciate the commitment using the app everyday, we feel logging food is a better indicator for streaks.
I missed a day, did I lose my streak?
Streaks reset when you miss a day. However, you can use the date picker at the top of the page to go back to the missed day and log your food the best you recall. This can help bridge the gap between your new and old streaks.
Can I turn off or hide streaks?
The streak feature is part of the new design. We have not added an option to hide them at this time, but always welcome user feedback - please let us know if you don’t find them helpful.
Troubleshooting
The new layout feels overwhelming. What should I focus on?
Start with what you know. Things like logging your meals and progress work largely the same way. The additional features, like streaks, are there to support you when you're ready to use them.
I can't find a feature I use regularly. What should I do?
First, try scrolling through your new Today tab. Many features have moved but are still accessible. If you still can't find something, check the “Updates to existing features” section above, or contact Customer Happiness via the chat in the lower right of this page.
The app looks completely different. Is this really the same MyFitnessPal?
Yes! (But with more to offer!) While the visual design is updated, your core experience remains the same. Think of it as a fresh coat of paint on the same reliable tasks like logging food, tracking nutrition, and monitoring your progress.
Users with a Premium or Premium+ subscription can continue to personalize their experience with powerful features (like the new AI-powered Coach) and insights designed to help them get the most out of their Diary.
Users without a subscription don't have to pay a dime with an ad-supported experience while still having access to the full database, reminders, nutrition tracking, and even new features like our GLP-1 tracker!
Can I go back to the old design?
The new Today interface is our path forward, designed based on user feedback and research. We encourage you to give it some time and get familiar with the layout. We’ll continue making improvements to help you reach your goals.
Why don't I see the new design?
The new Today tab is available to iOS/Android users (version 26.16.0+) across the following countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand who have their app set to English.
