Apple Health and MyFitnessPal Sync Troubleshooting
_____________________________________________________
Initializing the Connection
To link MyFitnessPal with Apple Health, launch the MyFitnessPal app for iPhone then tap:
More••• (lower right corner of the home screen) > Settings > Sharing & Privacy > HealthKit Sharing
You will then be presented with options for linking to Health, and for selecting the types of data you permit MyFitnessPal and Apple Health to share. We would suggest turning all categories on, and then tapping Allow.
*Please Note: This data-type selection screen inside the MyFitnessPal app will appear only the very first time that you authorize HealthKit Sharing in our app*
Checking on the Connection
If you would like to change the sharing options after linking MyFitnessPal and Health, Apple requires that you visit the Settings app on your iPhone.
If you visit "HealthKit Sharing" in the MyFitnessPal app after initially setting up Apple Health, you will not see the options to link or unlink
To find this information in your iOS settings after the initial prompt in our app:
Launch the iPhone's Settings app (not the MyFitnessPal app) > tap Health > Data Access & Devices > MyFitnessPal
There you will find the options for changing the permissions that govern MyFitnessPal's sharing with Apple Health.
Note: Since Apple Health is hosted by your device (and not as a separate downloadable app) it will not show as Connected under your Connected Apps in MyFitnessPal.
How does it work and what to expect
Once MyFitnessPal and Apple Health are linked, MyFitnessPal and Apple Health will (with your permission) share these types of data:
Food - MyFitnessPal will update Meal Summaries (calories and some nutrients, we currently do not track caffeine or send Vitamin A) to Apple Health. Food will not add from Health to MyFitnessPal.
Please note: MyFitnessPal does not support the syncing of timestamps when foods are logged from MyFitnessPal to Apple Health.
Exercises - Exercises that are logged in Apple Health will send to MyFitnessPal as long as the exercise was logged on the same day. If MyFitnessPal is opened/synced after midnight, the exercises from the previous day will not sync. Exercise does not transfer from MFP to Apple Health
Weight - MyFitnessPal and Apple Health will update weight in both directions
Sleep - Users who sync their Sleep information into Apple Health can view that information in the MyFitnessPal application

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MYFITNESSPAL USERS WHO LOG IN ON THE SAME IOS DEVICE
Apple Health does not distinguish between multiple MyFitnessPal accounts used in the same app on the same device.
If you share the MyFitnessPal app on your iOS device with others by logging in and out of multiple accounts, we do not recommend linking MyFitnessPal with Apple Health.
If you do, data from one MyFitnessPal account may overwrite existing data in Apple Health, and vice versa, resulting in mingled data in your individual MyFitnessPal accounts or no data transfer at all.

What if Apple Health and MyFitnessPal are Not Syncing with Each Other
If you are not seeing your workouts syncing from Apple Health into your MyFitnessPal account, please first note that only data logged after the initial connection will transfer into MyFitnessPal. We cannot pull historical data from Apple Health.
Next, we would suggest Checking On the Connection between Apple Health and MyFitnessPal in your Settings App. If everything is set on, please try adding a test workout or weight into Apple Health to check to see if the manually added data syncs. If it does, future information should also sync.
If the manually added workout did not sync, we recommend uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.
Before deleting your app, please note that any information that has not previously synced will be lost. To make sure your data has been syncing with the site, go to www.MyFitnessPal.com.Here's what you need to do to safely uninstall and reinstall the app:
-
First, you need to try to sync the app to make sure your data has been backed up. Open the app and log in. In the Menu on the left (or the "More" page on newer versions), scroll down to the "Sync" item. If the app reports it has not synced recently, tap the Sync item to force a sync. Make sure that your phone is connected to the internet when you are trying to sync. If you are not able to get the app to completely sync, then, unfortunately, when you uninstall the app you will lose any changes you have not synced.
-
Next, remove the app by going to the main applications screen, finding the MyFitnessPal icon, and pressing your finger down on it. If you're running iOS 13 or later you'll then want to select "Rearrange Apps". The icon then starts to jiggle and an "X" appears. Tap the "X" to delete the app. (If you're running an earlier version than iOS 13, the icon will start to jiggle without having to select "Rearrange Apps". You'll simply need to Tap the "X" to delete the app.)
-
Once the app has been uninstalled, open the App Store and search for "MyFitnessPal," and reinstall the app.
-
After the app has been reinstalled, open the app and log in to the Log in area using the same username and password as before. Your data should then sync from the main website back to your app.
- Finally, please re-link back with Apple Health (Initializing the Connection) and then add in a test workout (or weight) into Apple Health, which should now sync to your MyFitnessPal Exercise Diary. If it does not, please reach out to us here https://myfitnesspal.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new for further support.
