This article explains how to change your food search settings so your saved foods, recent foods, and meals appear no matter what meal you're logging for.
By default, MyFitnessPal keeps your food lists tidy by showing only the foods you've saved for the meal you're logging. Open breakfast, see your breakfast regulars. It's a helpful setup for a lot of people.
But, food doesn't always stay in its lane. Sometimes last night's dinner is today's lunch, and scrambled eggs make an excellent 9pm snack. If you'd rather see all of your saved foods every time you log, you can switch that on. Here's how.
iOS
- Open the MyFitnessPal app to your Today screen.
- Tap Log next to the meal you want to log items to.
- Tap the filter button to the right of where it says Recently Logged.
- Select All Meals under the Filter option.
Android
- Open the app and tap the More menu.
- Scroll down and tap Settings.
- Then tap Diary Settings.
- Check the box for Show All Food in Lists.
*Shortcut for the Android app: You can change this setting on the food search page by tapping the bubble to the right of History and choosing the All Meals filter from the drop-down menu.
Website
- Log in to our website using the same email address and password you use with the app.
- Click the Food tab near the top of the page, then click Add Food under any meal slot.
- Under the search bar, you’ll see “Or, add your favorites for:” with a meal name slot in blue font.
- Click on the Meal Slot name in Blue font, then select All Meals.
Frequently asked questions
Does this setting change what's already in my diary?
No. It only changes which saved foods appear in your lists when you log. Your existing entries stay exactly as they are.
Do I have to change this on every device?
Not usually. The setting is saved to your account, so it should follow you across your devices. If a device still shows meal-specific lists, try logging out and back in.
Can I switch back to meal-specific lists later?
Yes, any time. Follow the same steps and turn the setting off, or choose a single meal again from the filter.
Do I need a Premium subscription for this?
No. This setting is available to everyone with a MyFitnessPal account.
