This article explains how to manage your forum category notifications. It covers how to follow or unfollow categories, view the categories you follow, and mute a post.
You can choose which forum categories to follow, so you only receive updates on topics that interest you. When you unfollow a category, you will still see it in the list of available categories; it just won't show up in recent discussions. (Unless you select All on the Recent Discussions page)
Follow a Category
- Open the Categories list or select a specific category
- Click the bell icon (🔔) to start following that category. You can also follow a category by clicking the ellipsis (•••) symbol to the right of its name while on the Categories page.
- After you follow a category, you can receive updates via your community notifications
Unfollow a Category
If you don't want updates from a category anymore:
- Find the category you are following
- Click the bell icon again to unfollow that category.
- After you unfollow, the category will still appear in your list, but you won't get notifications from it unless you follow it again
View Your Followed Categories
- You can see and manage all your followed categories and notification settings from your Followed Content or preferences page. This lets you update or unfollow categories whenever you want.
Muting a Post
If you follow a category but a specific thread posts too many updates, you can mute that post instead of unfollowing the whole category, which stops notifications for just that thread
When you mute a post, you won't get any notifications for it, even if you follow the category, have bookmarked the post, get mentioned in it, or receive status updates. If you unmute the post, you'll start getting notifications for new activity, but you won't get any missed notifications from before. You can only mute posts one at a time.
